About

John Ellsworth is an extraordinary accomplished workers’ compensation attorney and a retired judge from Washington’s Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals (Board). John has been an attorney since 1979 and served as Judge from April 15, 1991 to March 31, 2018. Over these nearly 27 years, he has heard hundreds of cases and written decisions in some of the most important cases decided at the Board.

Having now retired as a judge from one of the highest posts at the Board, he is now committed to helping injured people both in and out of the courtroom as a member of the Palace Law team. He has seen the struggle for victims of industrial injuries for over 30 years and teamed up with Palace Law to continue the fight for the rights of injured workers.

John studied political science at Brigham Young University, taking a break to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Sweden. After several years, he returned to BYU and obtained his law degree, thereafter, moving his family to Gig Harbor, Washington in 1979.

In his free time, John can be found working in the yard, volunteering his time at church, or working out at the YMCA. His hobbies include the study of Swedish, chess, firearms and reloading.
